The Eotvos Lorand University was established in 1635, it is the oldest continuously operating university in Hungary. Currently it is located in Budapest. The Department of Meteorology was established in 1945. The present main research activity of the department includes dynamical modelling of atmospheric processes, statistical downscaling of global climate change, analysis of climatological extremes, estimation of regional climate change, monitoring and modelling of the regional carbon balance, and soil-vegetation-atmosphere transfer modelling.
